Northwest Denver needs more than a vote in the State House, we need a voice. After a lifetime of
living in and organizing for progressive candidates and causes in Northwest Denver, Dan Pabon knows
our community and it's challenges. Dan Pabon is the only candidate we can count on to be the community
voice that will fight for more than election cycle solutions to the challenges facing Northwest Denver's
students, seniors and working families.
We have to caucus for Dan in March in order to vote for Dan in the August primary. Candidates with
enough support at the March caucus are automatically placed on the August primary ballot where all
Democrats can cast their vote. The first step to getting Dan's name on the August Democratic primary
ballot is the precinct caucus. Dan can't win the Democratic nomination without getting his name on the
ballot so Dan needs YOU to caucus for him on March 16th, 2010 at 7 pm.
The intricacies of the caucus process are sometimes difficult to understand but the basic concept is
that candidates with the most support at the caucus will be placed on the ballot. While the rules can
be complex, the only thing you need to do to support Dan is show up to the caucus on March 16, 2010 at
7 pm and vote for delegates who support Dan!
A good way to think of a precinct caucus is to think of it as voting with your body. You will go to
your caucus location on caucus night and will stand with others who support Dan. The candidate with
the most people standing in his or her corner on caucus night wins the caucus.
In order to participate in the precinct caucus, you must meet three requirements:
- You must be over the age of 18.
-
You must be registered to vote as a Democrat for at least two months prior to the date of the
caucus. That means you must be registered as a Democrat before January 19, 2010.
-
You must have been registered to vote in the precinct which you will caucus for at least 30 days
prior to caucus night. That means you must be registered to vote in the precinct in which you
live before February 16, 2010.
(The caucus process is briefly explained below but we will also be hosting caucus trainings throughout
the next three months. We strongly suggest attending so check our calendar page for our next training
session.)
The caucus process is sometimes difficult to understand. However, while the rules can be complex, the
only thing you need to do to support Dan is show up and vote for delegates who support Dan!
Try and get to your caucus location a little early on caucus night. When you get to your caucus
location, look for the Dan Pabon precinct captain. She or he will help you get signed in and ready to go.
Once the caucus begins, you will stand shoulder to shoulder with other supporters to show your preference
for Dan Pabon. The caucus chairperson will count and tally the number of caucus goers who voiced a
preference for each candidate (called a preference group). Depending on how many people were in each
preference group, Dan and his opponents will be allowed a certain number of “delegates”. The more people
who stand in Dan's preference group on caucus night, the more delegates Dan will receive.
After the number of delegates are allocated, each candidate's preference group will vote for a person
to be a delegate and an alternate delegate. You will vote for as many delegates as were allocated by
the caucus chairperson. For every one delegate, you will also vote for one alternate delegate.
Make absolutely certain that you only vote for those delegates who support Dan!!!
Winning the caucus is all about grassroots organizing! If would like to do more to help Dan win the
caucus, contact us about being a precinct captain or volunteering.
If your busy schedule won't allow enough time to be a precinct captain or a volunteer, run to be a
delegate or alternate delegate for Dan at the precinct caucus!
Your caucus location is dependent on which precinct you live. If you are unsure what precinct you
